Kim Firm Guns – Precision Bolt Gun 101 Class | Feb 26th

Kim Firm Guns will be holding the “Kim Firm Guns Precision Bolt Gun 101” class on Thursday, February 26th in Hoschton, GA. We at Kim Firm Guns have put this class together based on the request of several of our clients who have always owned and/or shot bolt action rifles, but did not have formal instruction or training on weapon operation.  This is a basic bolt action fundamentals class designed for new precision rifle shooters. The purpose of this class is to:

  • Familiarize students with their equipment (proper rifle setup, care of rifle and optics, use of elevation/windage turrets, zeroing, and ballistics)
  • Develop the basic skills (posture, trigger control, ranging and estimation)
  • Serve as a primer and prerequisite for advanced long range precision shooting courses.

Students will meet on Thursday morning at the Kim Firm Office in Alpharetta and convoy to the long-distance range in Hoschton, GA at 9:30AM. We should be back in Alpharetta by 6:00PM. This class will be taught by Craig “Sawman” Sawyer, a former DEVGRU SEAL and SEAL Sniper Instructor.  For more information about the instructor, please visit Tactical Insider at www.tacticalinsider.com/bio.html.

The following equipment is required:

  • Bolt Action Rifle with scope & bi-pod (feel free to bring more than one bolt action rifle as I always recommend a back up)
  • 200 rounds of match ammo
  • Eye Protection
  • Ear Protection
  • Shooters mat
  • Notebook and Writing Instrument
  • Spotting scope or Binoculars
  • Lunch, water, and snacks (for those interested we will stop for fast food before we hit the range)

Optional equipment:

  • Range Finder

The cost of this class is $550.  As with most Kim Firm Gun’s offerings, the class size will be small and slots are extremely limited.

As of Feb 21, we currently have two slots remaining.

Please contact us immediately so we can reserve your slot and arrange course payment.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns, we look forward to seeing you on the 26th!

… Sig Responds to the ATF’s Open Letter

Sig Brace Sig released a press release regarding the ATF’s opinion letter regarding the Sig Brace, read below:

NEWINGTON, N.H. (January 21, 2015)—SIG SAUER, Inc., has issued the following statement about the recent opinion by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in regard to the SB15 and SBX pistol stabilizing braces. As reaffirmed in an Open Letter by ATF’s Firearms and Ammunition Technology Division dated January 16, 2015, the Pistol Stabilizing Brace (SB15 and SBX) is legal to own, legal to purchase, and legal to install on a pistol. SIG SAUER® believes that the PSB improves the single-handed shooting performance of buffer tube equipped pistols, and offers the product both as an accessory and pre-installed on a number of pistols.

The Open Letter goes further to rescind a previous private letter regarding the ‘intent’ of the user of the pistol stabilizing brace. In the letter of January 16, 2015, ATF opines that a person’s actual use of the product as a shoulder stock can change the legal classification of the product. However, the Open Letter explicitly states: “ATF hereby confirms that if used as designed—to assist shooters in stabilizing a handgun while shooting with a single hand—the device is not considered a shoulder stock and therefore may be attached to a handgun without making a NFA firearm.”

We question ATF’s reversal in position that the classification of the brace may be altered by its use. We are reviewing the legal precedents and justification for this position, and will address our concerns with ATF in the near future. “We will vigorously defend the classification of all of our products and our consumers’ right to use them in accordance with the law. If we find that the open letter opinion is outside the scope of the law, we will seek further review.”

The Sig Brace Saga continues…

Users of the Sig Brace will not be held down! There appears to be a movement to overrule the ATF’s opinion relegating the shouldering of a Sig Brace to NFA through the legal method of Declaratory Relief. More information can be found in this article, but be assured this is on the end of the Sig Brace Saga!

Keep Poking the Bear and the Bear Writes An Opinion Letter

Continuing the Sig Brace Saga, the Acting Chief of the ATF released an opinion letter, revoking all other ATF letters on the subject, clarifying the proper use of the Sig Brace as well as how improper use (ie. Shouldering) violates NFA. Read the opinion letter at the link.

Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! What Will 2015 Bring Us?

2014-11-21 17.14.18processedWe’ve seen significant changes to the world of NFA in 2014 and are waiting to see if the ATF will decide regarding potential changes to NFA Gun Trusts in 2015. In the meantime, the NFA Gun Trust is an effective way to acquire and protect your NFA items. The popularity of suppressors, SBRs, and NFA items in general have exploded this year thankfully due to the innovations of manufacturers, expansion of states allowing hunting with suppressors, and the steps the ATF has taken to reduce their backlog.
